<i>Staphylococcus pseudintermedius</i>: Is it a real threat to human health?

Abstract Staphylococcus Intermedius Group (SIG) staphylococci, especially pseudintermedius ( S. pseudintermedius) , share many features with the common human aureus . The similarities concern both phenotypic characteristics and virulence of bacteria. It is a cause difficulties in identifying species isolated staphylococci. Until now, was considered typically animal species, marginal importance for humans. However, it likely that incidence this staphylococcus humans underestimated due to misidentification strains as cases infections caused by animals described so far literature show these bacteria have similar pathogenic potential. also produces factors favor colonization various body regions infections, may affect composition natural microbiota host’s immune response mechanisms. Also, ability grow form biofilm, which significantly impedes effective antibiotic therapy clinical practice. Due its zoonotic potential, deserves attention physicians owners.
